Function and applications of emergency heating systems and buffer storage tanks

The 2.5 kW electric heating element is ideal for retrofitting buffer tanks, domestic hot water tanks, and solar thermal storage tanks. Thanks to the insulated heating cartridge, efficient heat transfer is ensured while simultaneously preventing corrosion.

With its standardized 1½" male thread connection, the heating element can be easily integrated into enamelled tanks and steel storage tanks. Whether used as a supplementary heating system or as the primary heat source, this device offers a reliable solution in many applications.

Technology

The heating cartridge measures 370 mm in length, with an unheated zone of approximately 120 mm extending from the sealing surface. At an operating voltage of 3-400 V, it delivers a constant heat output of 2,500 W.

The continuously adjustable thermostat allows temperature settings between 30 and 75 °C, while the integrated safety temperature limiter (STB) is set at 98 °C. The IP54 protection rating guarantees safe operation even under demanding environmental conditions.

Safety and corrosion protection

A key feature is the integrated insulating separation: it separates the heating conductor from the protective conductor, thus minimizing galvanic currents that would promote corrosion in metallic storage tanks. This significantly increases the service life of buffer storage tanks.

The 2.4858 (Incoloy825) pipe casing material offers excellent resistance to aggressive media and extends the maintenance cycle. The brass screw head and ABS housing complete the high-quality design.

Assembly and installation

Before installation, it is essential to check the maximum installation length of the storage tank to avoid damage. The heating element can be screwed into the tank without special tools using a 1½" screw connection.

The externally mounted thermostat facilitates subsequent fine-tuning of the desired temperature without having to open the storage tank. The IP54 protection rating allows installation in technical rooms with fluctuating humidity and dust conditions.

Thanks to its robust materials and high protection rating, this heating element is designed for continuous operation. It ensures a constant heat output and can be used as an emergency heater or as part of a multifunctional heating system.
